The Great Entrepreneur
The Proverbs 31 woman has been mentioned everywhere:
at Church, businesses, T-shirts, women’s ministries, you name it. Some use the Bible passage as an example to follow, some to bring shame to other women that cannot see themselves achieving so much with such grace. Some dwell on 1 or 2 verses and others pays no attention to her story at all.
It is really easy to identify the Proverbs 31 Woman is a virtuous woman who took good care of her family and her home. We can safely say that she was indeed an amazing mother and wife, but she was much more than that.
The Proverbs 31 Woman was an entrepreneur! That is right, she was one of the best business women of her time. Did you know that she was also an investor? (Prov 31:16), you read correctly my friend, this awesome woman who rose at dawn to serve her family and make sure everyone was set for the day, bought a piece of land (investing) and with her profits she planted a vineyard (started her own business).
She served her maids in the morning, she was the lady of the house, yet she served them. That means she was one heck of a boss. This woman had employees that she recognized and appreciated. The Bible text tells us that she made sure her merchandise was good (Prov 31:18), it means she knew she had to deliver good, quality products to keep the business going and growing.
Now, mind you that this fantastic woman lived about 900 years before Christ, when there was no machinery, no internet and certainly no Gurus to give her the 10 Steps to Start Your Own Winery. I know the Bible doesn’t say that she had a winery, but I am using this word to make a point. I think you get it.
This woman seems to have it all. We hear this a lot nowadays, women that want to have it all but are always sacrificing their family or their careers. Most of us thinks that it is impossible to have it all, but this is conversation for another time.
As we read about everything she did, we can’t help but ask: how did she do it? How did this woman, served her family, launched a business, took care of her children and invested? If you read the passage carefully you will find the answer to this question.
She did not give into idleness (Prov 31:27). She worked out, yet she went to the gym (Prov 31:17). I know that 24 hours gym wasn’t a thing yet, but one can only think that working with a shovel on her own vineyard was as effective as lifting 10 dumbbells or doing many push-ups every day. She was definitely fit.
She was ready for the physical and mental struggles that every entrepreneur goes through at any giving day (Prov 31:30). But above all, she feared the Lord! (Prov 31:30) And this, this right here friends is the main ingredient to anyone looking for success. When you partner with God, there is only one outcome: Success!
So, when you start making a list of a thousand things that you want to accomplish in 2025, fully aware that you won’t make it to item #5 (been there, done that) make sure that the Fear of the Lord is on your list. If you want to become a successful business owner/entrepreneur follow her example. Work hard and invest; not just money, but invest in quality time. Time with your family, with your employees and above all, time with Jesus.
Easier said then done, right? Nothing worth having comes for free, I fell discouraged every single day, yet, here I am, writing this to share with you.
If you and I put God first, our kids are going to call us blessed (Prov 31:28) and the work of our hands will be praised.
